To Austin Yoga Teachers and Friends

Please join us for the 9th annual Free Day of Yoga on Labor Day, September 3, 2007. Whether you teach a class or two, join us as a participant, or donate your time as a volunteer (or all three!) we would love your participation!

For those of you who are new to Austin, there are over 100 free yoga classes in the greater Austin vicinity on this day. We have grown from 800 participants in 1999, to 2,400 participants in 2003, to almost 3000 participants in 2004, and we fully expect to have even larger crowds this year!

Benefiting our Community
The Free Day of Yoga benefits our community at large and us as teachers in a number of ways:

  • People who have never tried yoga can try it, for free.
  • Existing students can try new classes, teachers, and studios to broaden their exposure.
  • Participants travel to Austin from all over Texas, expanding our yoga community.
  • It raises the visibility of our teachers and studios.
  • It gives teachers exposure to a large number of new students (some classes have as many as 100 participants!).
  • It gives teachers the opportunity to give back to our community.
  • It showcases the tremendous diversity of teaching styles, quality, and talent in our city.
  • It builds community between and among teachers and students.
  • It's fun!

Would You Like to Teach a Class?
If you are interested in teaching a class, sharing your studio space with those who want to teach but do not have space to teach a class, or volunteering, please submit your information by August 1, 2007 so that we can begin to market the event in local newspapers, on flyers, and on TV!!! To submit information on what we need to know about your class: click here and send us the details!

Need Flyers to Hand Out?
We will be printing the flyers that can be distributed around town.We would like to meet as many teachers as possible on Friday, August 17, 2007 at Central Market, 4001 N. Lamar Blvd. We will be there between 4 and 7pm that afternoon/evening with flyers. If you can't make it to pick up your flyers then, please email and we will make other arrangements. Or, print your own copies! Additionally, we will have flyers available at Yogagroove 7950 Great Northern Blvd., 502 W. 30th St., and The Herb Bar, 200 W. Mary St.

Supporting the Effort
Also, if you would like to help us cover the cost of pulling this event together, we could use your help. There are a number of expenses (printing flyers, mailings, distributing flyers, web page service, etc.) that go into hosting the event. You can help us defray these costs in one of two ways:

  • Make a monetary donation of any amount ($5 is suggested, but feel free to be creative!). Send any contributions to Mary Esther Middleton, 7505 Waldon Dr. Austin, TX 78750.
  • Buy a business-card-sized ad that will appear on our web page! Ads run $50 and include your name, contact information and one snazzy line about your business. If you are interested, please contact Mary Esther Middleton, 512-343-1739, to reserve your space
  • Help support our paid advertisement in The Austin Chronicle. For an additional $35 ($85 total), your logo will be displayed in the 2-page Free Day of Yoga ad and schedule listings on August 30!

Sharing Your Ideas
We are very interested in your ideas, input, and solutions, so please share those with us by contacting Mary Esther Middleton, 512-343-1739.
